Hard Pannier system for S1000RR?

a factory, hard pannier system is what the supersport world is missing, there are plenty of people that would buy a supersport but buy a sport touring instead because of the lack of hard, secure bags. they did that on the F800S (can be bought as accessory for about $1000 more)

BMW has a mounting system for hard panniers available for all of their bikes so far, why not this one?

what do you think?

I disagree. I dislike hard panniers. they work on the GS, RT and the GT, but they should stop there. I believe in rear seat bags like the BMW 51L softbag. they are the ultimate weapon, and I haven't come across anyone saying that they miss hard bags on their Gixxer 1000 or Yamaha R1 and Suzuki has been making the Gixxer like for 20 years... just my opinion... S

no body wants it on their Gixxer because the people that want/need hard panniers buy something else. providing the option of hard panniers will get people that want the security of a locking bag, but want a sport bike as well

hard panniers make a bike practical for everyday travel, plus you can take bags and a passenger
it could be the edge that BMW is looking for in the liter-bike business
(they already have the sports panniers, they could just create a mounting system to suit the S1000RR)

I belive that the same mounting system and hard bags that are available on the RT/ST/RR/GT should be available as well on the K1200Sport and the K1200S, the R1200S plus any upcomming Beemers.

Much easier on the dealers to stock and remains true to the BMW sport touring tradition of touring even on their sportiest bikes.

The K1200R Sport with the standard hard bags would be a fantastic sport touring mount.

Just my $.02 worth based on a very long involvement with the mark as both a dealer and customer.

No way, it's a superbike, it's not for travelling, neither just carrying the lock.

This bike enviroment will be the track, although they make it road legal.

my take……no hard panniers for a Superbike. I only use my sport panniers on the K12 if I absolutely have to…….and sometimes I have to. Without a carrier bracket on the back (which I also won’t fit on my K12) the soft luggage takes the pillion’s space. Having said that, I don’t think the sport panniers necessarily let the K12 looks like a dedicated tourer. Soft rear seat luggage is my preference.

imo the pillion argument falls away on the S1000RR…..would be typically Superbike…..very uncomfortable for a pillion. Having used the tail luggage on my Superbike, even for a week away (1 up), I never experienced a space problem. Would be nice to see designated mounting spots for soft, tail luggage on the S1000 and maybe even a purpose made soft BMW tail bag......bearing in mind the passenger foot rests will probably be the first items to be removed on the S100RR

Me too, I'm with Shiva. A tailored soft waterproof bag to sit on the tail would be good, plus tankbag. Anyone can get enough gear for a week into that combo - unless they're a girl

Why not make it available as option?

For safety reason I would be pro that option: there will be the odd day a supersport rider wants to take something along - where is it gonna end up?: in a rucksack .... neither safe nor optimal, is it?!

you guys are not getting what this bike means to BMW.
it gives the finger to everything BMW stands for before and says hello to a whole new world. NO luggage, under any condition, for any reason. this is not for touring, it's a squid bike made for squids at heart. it's not a K bike and they are trying so hard to keep it different, I wouldn't be surprised if they open new dealerships with younger sales people and hipper environment, like Mini just for the S bikes. if you're thinking as the S, as the 'K light,' you're missing the point! they want to shatter the BMW's touring image and the pipe and slipper with this bike, just so to attract the younger buyer. they younger buyer looks at BMW riders as aliens, with weird gear, weirder helmets, bunch of old folks with beards who rider slow, dependable, un-sexy bikes. Come on, you know all this. Didn't you read my thread about Do you think the S1000RR guys wanna hang with K dudes? ? I just unclip the panniers and top box when not required on weekends
If I had the money I would have a GT and a S
If the S had panniers and top box option I would have bought the S
Colleague at work rides a Fireblade
He would have loved space for his helmet and jacket after the daily commute, he loves my packing space
Removable on weekends
Come on guys, wife phones and asks "bring some bread and milk on your way home"
That Fireblade rider will consider a BMW sport bike with removable bags for weekends

Good morning:

I'm from Barcelona (Spain) and I have a S1000RR.

I set up a support system for soft bags and hard bags you could put (in preparation)

The system uses a steel plate attached to the same anchor points that the passenger seat.

I placed it on another bike seat (more comfortable) and I kept the original seat in a saddlebag.

I tested the system with a companion for 1500 km and just over 2000 km. It is effective and is easily removed.

I hang a picture.

Honestly, those looks ugly. But it's fine if those serve their purpose and you are happy.

Big minus with soft bags is that you can't lock those. In hard bags you can leave your stuff safely when leaving your bike somewhere for a while.

Hola Tandem, welcome to the forum

Looking your system, I think is unsafe in rear collision situation(a major percentage in motorcycle accidents), if you ride with pillion (even alone) and suffer a rear collision, the steel plate will actuate like a cutter over the legs because you will push to the rear.

That is the best soft bag system i have seen. I saw it at motorbike fair in Helsinki. Feels to stay there nicely too.

LOL I just saw this thread after posting in another thread asking about S1000RR panniers. Seriously, panniers aren't a big deal because they can be removed in seconds for sport riding.

Think of the advantages panniers confer...
--Space for extra helmet and an extra-large box of condoms. Try fitting that in a tank bag next time you pick up a drunk chick with your bike.
--Room for a tire patch kit AND an air-compressor. Group rides often end up in tears when one guy picks up a nail. Fix a flat in 5 minutes flat and the appreciative rider will lend you his girlfriend for a couple of days.
--Much easier to wheelie at 90 mph as the extra wind resistance pushes the center of gravity way back.
--Impress your riding buddies with sparkies when you touch down panniers going around corners...no knee sliders needed!
--Scare riders ahead of you with the world's fastest Suzuki Burgman.
--Room for a peace symbol AND to mount a Jesus doll ()
--1 case of Starbucks coffee in the left bag and 1 case of Coors in the right bag.
--Disguise your race-replica as a tourer from angry cops.

Panniers are just so kick-ass awesome I'm surprised anyone is against them.
