S1000 RR First Ride

Postby D-H on Mon Oct 26, 2009 1:50 pm

Just had my first ride on the S1000 RR on a track in Spain today - what a bike!!! The power delivery is so smooth, handling is very nice, neutral, and confidence inspiring. The ABS & DTC both also work very very well. :D :D :D

Cool. What occasion was that D-H. How was it power wise compared to the Jap bikes??

A happy guy!
I think he must be a BMW salesman. The BMW staff is being trained and briefed on the sales and marketing of the S1000RR around this time on a Spanish track. The salesguy from my dealership mentioned October as the upcoming key date a couple of months ago. So that's my best guess. Too soon for any of us to try one....

Yes, my local BMW Motorrad sales manager is also in Spain this week getting introduced to the new bike. It would appear that BMW is putting some serious muscle behind the launch of this bike. Glad to see it.

Personally I'll be sticking with my K1300S because my riding pattern is a mix of sport riding and moderate touring and no other bike is as adept at dual duty as the K. I might eventually split the difference and get a GT and a RR. Before the RR it would have been a GT and a Ducati.

The power delivery is so smooth, handling is very nice, neutral, and confidence inspiring. There is a noticeable difference when riding the bike in the different power modes (Rain, Road, Race, Slick), which I think will make it quite easy to live with as an everyday bike. The ABS & DTC both also work very very well. We tried these out in a semi controlled environment / set up situation and I was very well impressed and how good the ABS works, but also how it feels.

Overall, very happy with it. I know thats what most of you expect since I work for BMW, but genuinely, and I do mean genuinely, I'm very impressed with the bike, how it feels ergonomically, power-wise too. The brakes are also awesome.

My sales manager is there too, I understand (from what he told me) that everyone interested in selling it, HAS to be there!
Anyhoo... I was looking at the test times from Portimao that is going on at the moment, but didn't see any BMW's in the results???

Have they joined the dealer gathering in Spain??? Anyone know?

Apparently some of the bikes circulated without transponders. Zaus has another broken leg (during the second race Checa's engine blew up in front of him spraying him with oil and he crashed) so only Corser could have taken part. No sure if he is there.

Ok Guys!!

I just got back from Spain and Yes I am a Sales rep for BMW, and also Kawi, suzuki, yamaha, triumph, aprilia, ktm, motoguzzi. This Bike is frickin awesome, I have owned everything from RC51's,Gsxr750k6,CBR929,CBR900RR,Gsxr1000k5,K1300S and have riddin all the litre bikes mentioned above. There is nothing that will touch this bike, to give you an idea this bike stock has more HP then a Canadian R1 factory superbikes!!! The bike is supersmooth, DTC/Race ABS amazing, quickshifter works very well and sounds even better, slipper clutch is stunning. they had us do a training session on polished pavement, for the DTC and Race ABS, and the bike never kicked out under full accelleration and never budged under hard braking (remember polished pavement). and on the track....OMG, unbelievable...talk about an adreneline rush, very easy to manage and riding position is good. I tried three out of the four DTC modes and there is a notable difference between rain, sport and race. I never tried the slick mode cause i was needing the DTC to bring the wheel back down after 2 sec. third gear pulls hard and quick shifting full lean full throttle in third-fouth gear did not upset the bike atoll. I was super immpressed and anyone who has a deposit down is going to love the bike, and anyone who doesnt have a deposit down....DO IT. before it's too late.

I am not sure about the US but Canada is a distributer for Alpha racing parts, which are very high end aftermarket accessories like, race arrow exhaust and everthing from rockers to race cams to forged wheels to carbon fiber everything in cluding carbon fibre frame and swingarm gaurds including a full race wiring system for the 2D dash.

Sorry for all the Spelling mistakes my adreniline was still pumping while writing this.... I will post pics as soon as i can, of the track, meeting, alpha racing S1000RR/parts/HP parts.

Favorite Colour for me:
1:Motorsports colour - a must have
2:Thunder Grey - super sleek
3:Acid Green - gorgeous in the sun
4:Mineral Silver - very conservative.

:D :D :D :D

Blackfoot, you make us very envious, but in a good way. So the DTC won't allow a wheelie down the straight for photo opportunities or just not while in full lean? Either way the excitement and anticipation is overwhelming. Thank you greatly for sharing. It helps us mere mortals keep focus. :) :)

Blackfoot -

You are REALLY becoming a problem to me. Now I have to start looking for some stimulus money (a U.S. thing) so I can get me one of these.
